Sometimes it’s good to just sit back and laugh at yourself. So was the case this morning when I read Pierre Henry’s piece on theonion.com. The title, “You Must Romance The Music Out Of The Tambourine,” sounds like the perfect title of a clinic that I could give at the Texas Music Educator’s Association Convention (TMEA), or the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). The difference, of course, is that Mr. Henry’s piece is basically “tongue-in-cheek,” and I take the playing of percussion accessories very, very seriously.
Or do I? …
Anyone who has seen one of my presentations will tell you that I use humor and self-deprecation to help get my points across. I find that it keeps the audience amused and interested in the tid-bits found in the gospel according to Grover.
So in the spirit of good fun here’s the link to the article. Enjoy…
