I just returned from presenting a master-class at The New England Percussion Institute. Their beautiful lakeside location is ideally situated at the Snow Pond Music Festival in Maine. Participants get an intensive six days of study geared to high-level undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students. Program participants study primary percussion and accessory instruments with a world-class faculty in an intimate and supportive environment.
Daily activities include daily orchestral repertoire reading sessions, lessons, lectures, masterclasses and recitals. Participants can expect to explore a broad range of topics from tone production, interpretation, and percussion section techniques to changing and clearing timpani heads and audition preparation. Ample time is scheduled for practice and other activities.
It was great to see my good friends Sal Rabbio (Timpanist – Detroit Sym, ret.) and Matt Strauss (Houston Sym). I’m really looking forward to returning next year!
