MIT percussionist (and plasma scientist) Mark Chilenski and Dr. Fred Harris (conductor of the MIT Wind Ensemble) stopped by to talk to me about our Brass Tubular Triangle Beaters. They seemed interested, so I gave them a tour of the shop, taking time to let them hear our Musical Anvils and Variable Tension Castanets. They were very surprised to hear the story of how MIT was instrumental in the creation of the very first Grover Super-Overtone triangle!
Mark is finishing his PhD at MIT and is an avid percussion enthusiast. Fred is a highly respected music educator, award-winning conductor, and author of Conducting With Feeling, published by our good friend Dr. Garwood Whaley. While at MIT, Dr. Harris has commissioned over 52 new works from composers around the world. Not to mention he studied percussion with my dear friend and former Boston Symphony colleague Arthur Press!
