Josh Wynnyk
Josh Wynnyk can be heard on a JUNO Award winning recording with Kent Nagano and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra with whom he currently plays as an extra percussionist. Josh is an ambassador to the National Youth Orchestra of Canada with whom he trained for five consecutive summers. Studying under John Rudolph, the former Principal Percussionist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Josh graduated from the Glenn Gould School receiving a Performance Diploma with honours made possible by The Patrick and Barbara Keenan Foundation Scholarship. Two weeks before graduating, Josh won the Principal Percussionist position in the Regina Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for two years. Since then, Josh has been guest Principal Percussionist with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and has played with the Ottawa, Thunder Bay and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras.
Josh has played under distinguished conductors such as Pablo Heras-Casado, Karina Canellakis, Edward Gardner, SusannaMälkki, Alain Altinoglu, Rafael Payare, Gabor Takács-Nagy, Michael Schønwandt and more. Josh has also played in music festivals in Austria with the Vienna Philharmonic, in New York performing at Carnegie Hall and has toured Canada, USA, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, Scotland and Germany. In addition to his studies at The Glenn Gould School, Josh has studied with members of the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and more. An avid teacher, Josh has taught at the University of Regina’s Conservatory of Performing Arts, The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Summer Camp in Toronto and currently has a full studio of private percussion students from across Canada. Josh has won an Award of Excellence from the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as well as the “Piccolo Prix” from the National Arts Centre Bursary Competition. Josh proudly uses and endorses JG Percussion Mallets, Grover Percussion Products and Sabian Cymbals. Currently, Josh is furthering his education with online lessons and courses at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In his free time, Josh enjoys diving deeper into the world of coffee as well as training his corgi puppy named Miku.
