Grover Pro Endorser Dr. Scott Herring has had a busy summer, recently completed a performing and teaching trip to China. Scott visited Yantai, which is on the coast, about a one hour flight from Beijing. In addition to performing with the Rosewind Duo at the Yantai Cultural Center, he was the first professional Western percussionist to visit the area. The numerous young, aspiring, Chinese percussion students were thrilled to be able to learn from someone of Scott’s caliber and abilities!

Scott reports that all of the students and teachers were very thirsty for information about western percussion techniques. In one of his masterclasses Scott introduced Grover Pro tambourines to the Chinese percussionists. (see photo)
At the end of his visit Scott was honored to receive several invitations to return to Yantai, Xi’an, and Jinan, China.
Dr. Scott Herring is an Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.

Everyone knows that Grover Pro products are used in the world’s finest concert halls, but did you know that our products are omnipresent in the LA studios, on Broadway and with top touring acts like Peter Gabriel?
We had a chance to catch up with new Grover Endorser Joby Burgess while he was in Boston with Peter Gabriel and the New Blood Orchestra. Joby joins the ranks of some of Britain’s top solo percussionists like Evelyn Glennie, Daniella Ganeva and Dave Danford, who are all Grover Pro endorsers.
“Thanks for picking out the excellent new triangles for my North American tour with Peter Gabriel. Peter has a passion for using several very closely pitched triangles together, on tracks like Mercy Street and Don’t Give Up. Yours are by far the best I’ve used. My new Grover tambourines have been another great addition on this tour, that great Grover sound in a rock n roll context.”
The University of Tennessee at Martin Percussion Studio (Julie Hill, Director) traveled to Salvador da Bahia, Brazil from May 15-22, 2011. . The UTM studio also participated in percussion lessons, cultural exchange sessions, and clinics with the percussion studio of the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) in Salvador.
The culmination of this exchange was a collective concert featuring both studios on Thursday May 19th at the UFBA School of Music. The finale of this concert was a premiere written by Hill for the event entitled, “Lembranças” in which both studios performed together. Julie told us “The UTM students were absolutely wonderful in their openness to diversity and experiences in a new and diverse culture in Salvador, Brazil. They were great ambassadors of UTM and the USA at large. We are so grateful to everyone that helped us with a truly life changing experience that the students nor I will ever forget. New hearts and minds, both in Brazil and within our UTM students, are open as a result of this exchange and the world has become just a little smaller place for us.”

Naples Philharmonic (FL) Principal Percussionist Jim Dallas visited our factory today. Jim was on a New England trip visiting both the venerable Avedis Zildjian Company and Grover Pro Percussion too.
While he was here, Jim informed us that he really loves our new X-Series Synthetic Head Tambourines. Jim explains his experience is that our innovative synthetic head tambos work really well, and are unaffected in the very humid Florida weather. Jim purchased his first Grover Pro tambourine in 1983 and reports that he still plays it all the time with the Naples Philharmonic!
